January 3, 2025
Share:The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has granted disaster relief for taxpayers in certain disaster areas, including the entire state of Alabama. Taxpayers in the affected areas now have until May 1, 2025 to file various tax returns and make certain tax payments, including the 2024 4th quarter estimated tax payment originally due January 15, 2025.
The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers located in the covered disaster area and applies filing and payment relief. Affected taxpayers who reside or have a business located outside the covered disaster area can call the IRS at 866-562-5227 to request tax relief.
A complete copy of the notice can be found on the IRS website at IR-2024-253.
The Alabama Department of Revenue is offering tax filing and penalty relief on a case-by-case basis to Alabama taxpayers residing in federally declared disaster areas and who may be unable to timely file tax returns as a result of damage or disruptions caused by Hurricane Helene. Taxpayers will need to contact the ALDOR offices by telephone to request relief. More information and the applicable phone numbers can be found on the ALDOR website.
