Industries / Non-profit

Financial management for your purpose.

Our experience with non-profit organizations, includes audits of entities that receive federal funding (Single Audits), entities that utilize tax-exempt financing that often have extensive debt covenants (including colleges), United Way and numerous member agencies, religious organizations, and various service organizations. We consult regarding a variety of topics including compliance with tax reporting, complex financial accounting and reporting standards, including contributions, net asset classifications and Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) disclosures, fair value reporting, as well as reporting on the modified cash basis and other situations unique to non-profit organizations.

How our services are applied to a non-profit

Employee Benefit Plans

Audits of retirement plans formed under Code Section 403(b) and 401(k).

Financial Reporting & Assurance
  • Audits, reviews & compilations of financial statements – non-profit organizations are generally required to perform audits based on funding sources

  • Experience auditing organizations subject to Uniform Guidance – organizations financed by tax-exempt debt and various other organizations.

Tax

The tax return for a non-profit organization is generally IRS Form 990. We have prepared or reviewed these forms for hundreds of entities with unique situations. In addition, we have assisted many non-profit organizations with initial filings including, IRS Forms 1023 for prospective 501(c)(3) organizations and 1024 for other prospective tax exempt organizations. We have also represented various non-profit organizations subject to IRS audits.

Outsourced Accounting Services
  • Assist with monthly financial statements, check writing, account reconciliation, payroll and sales tax filings. Our team can serve as your back office without having to take on unnecessary costs.

  • Serve as an interim CFO or other supporting accounting personnel for staff transition within an organization.

IT
  • Our IT department can manage the computer, phone and other technology needs, including the design and implementation of facility improvements in these areas (i.e. wiring, equipment procurement/setup/training).

I trust and value the team at Wilkins Miller in helping me uphold the highest standards in accounting practices. Allowing us to uphold the highest standards in mentoring, resulting in us all contributing to lives being changed for the better—forever in our community.

We consider Wilkins Miller’s staff a vital part of Collegiate Housing Foundation’s team, contributing significantly to our success and growth. It is apparent from their diligent efforts year in and year out that their team is invested in the Foundation and the work it does. We communicate and work with them on a daily basis and have for over 20 years.

– Will Givhan

The Wilkins Miller team worked with our Finance Department through various obstacles, not just to complete the annual audit and 990, but also to build better policies, procedures, and practices for our organization. The staff have been invaluable assets in developing high-quality and useful financial information for our Management and Board of Directors.

– Eric Jefferson - Housing First

We have enjoyed working with Wilkins Miller’s talented and accommodating team for several years now. They provide constructive and helpful feedback that has improved our processes each year as we strive to be the best Accounting Department in the region.

– Mark McVay

When the Archdiocese needed better financial information for one of our ministries, we brought in Wilkins Miller as the ministry’s outsourced CFO to process payroll and payables, and to look at various processes in place. They quickly jumped in and assisted the Administrator with improvement opportunities for capturing all billing opportunities for the programs, improved the flow for approving payroll time and processing invoices for payment. With their high-quality work and wide range of services, I would recommend their firm to anyone.

– Michele Manry - Archdiocese of Mobile
